Why Won’t My Windscreen Washer Pump Work?
A windscreen washer pump that is not working can leave you pressing the washer control with no fluid reaching the windscreen. Sometimes the pump is completely silent, while in other cases you can hear it running but nothing comes through the nozzles. These symptoms can have different causes, so the first useful distinction is whether the pump is receiving power and operating, or whether the problem is in the fluid delivery system.
When the pump makes no noise, the fault may involve the pump motor, fuse, wiring, earth or the control circuit that activates it. If testing shows the windscreen washer pump has no power, replacing the pump alone will not resolve the issue. Checking the electrical supply and pump operation can help identify whether the problem is a failed component or a fault elsewhere in the washer circuit.
