Road Trip Electrical Checklist

As we look towards the future and the eventual ending of lockdown due to the COVID-19 virus there is an expectation that people are keen to stretch their legs and get out of their home. If you are planning a long road trip to celebrate your new found freedom it has never been a better time to get a head start on planning by making sure your car or 4WD is ready to handle the journey with a road trip electrical checklist.

As we are a country filled with remote locations, making sure your vehicle is up to scratch is a great way to avoid being stuck in the middle of nowhere. This helps prevent costly tow services and on the spot quotes from mechanics that might not have your best interest at heart after a slow period during lockdown.

Checking Your Battery

Perhaps the most common cause of dramas on road trips is the battery going flat. The first step is making sure you have the power you need is to consider how old your battery is. If your battery is over 5 years old it is generally a good idea to have it replaced.

As for a lot of components in your vehicle, you can usually get a sense of when things are not running at 100%. Are your headlights dimming? Is your car slow to start? These are all indications of a battery on the way out.

If you are concerned about your battery we encourage you to get in contact with Bashi’s to arrange a time for a battery inspection. We can test and make sure everything is working at an optimal rate and carry a massive range of PowerCrank batteries should you need a replacement.

Headlights, Blinkers and Brake Lights

Making sure your vehicle lighting is all functioning correctly is incredibly important for yours and others safety while on the road. A complete inspection of all lights including headlights, brake lights, tail lights and blinkers should be carried out before departing on any long journey.

Not only will making sure your lights are working make the trip safer for you, it will also help avoid costly fines that may come your way should the police see your lights not working. While dimming lights can often be the result of a battery failing it can also be as simple as dirt and much getting in there over time.

We stock a wide range of lighting options for both cars and 4WD vehicles. Don’t risk an injury or a fine and bring your vehicle into Bashi’s to have us carry out a lighting inspection to make sure you are all ready to go.

Checking Your Air Conditioning

This one is more about comfort than anything else. If you are traveling in the Summer months for Christmas events with the family it can get a tad hot here. While winding down the window is not a terrible alternative, making sure you can keep things cool will result in less stress while on your adventure.

Over time your air conditioning will deteriorate and require a regassing which is the process of replacing the refrigerant after removing the old mixture. This process is not a simple one and should always be carried out by a qualified professional.

If you have noticed your air conditioner is not keeping the car as cool as it used to or have noticed a funky smell emanating from the vents we advise you to give us a call on 07 5495 7333 or contact us online to arrange a time to bring it in for a checkup.
